The five-year integrated undergraduate BA LLB (Hons) is the flagship degree at NLSIU that covers a range of legal and non-legal subjects.
The three-year integrated law program is a professional postgraduate degree that is open to graduates from all disciplines. This program is structured around the interdisciplinary study of law combined with learning from experience.
NLSIU offers a one-year LLM degree program that is organized around three trimesters every academic year. The course is meticulously designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required in the intricate landscape of Law.
NLSIU offers the Master’s Programme in Public Policy, which was introduced in 2014. The program is a two-year residential interdisciplinary which focuses on an interface between policy, social sciences, and the law.
NLSIU offers the Ph.D. (Law) program, which gives candidates an opportunity to contribute to their chosen academic field of study. Candidates are also given a chance to teach and participate in the ongoing research at NLSIU in their chosen area for dissertation.
NLSIU offers an interdisciplinary PhD program, which involves researching across disciplines to arrive at a more comprehensive perspective and solution for a problem. Candidates are also provided the opportunity to teach in the areas related to the research.
NLSIU also offers a postgraduate master's degree and several postgraduate diplomas for students from all backgrounds. These are -
Candidates from General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories should have passed 12th Grade or an equivalent examination with 45% marks (or 40% for the SC/ST category).
Candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories should have an LLB or equivalent degree with a minimum of 50% marks (45% in the case of SC/ST categories). Candidates appearing for their final year LLB examination are also eligible to apply.
a) Candidates having a 5-year/ 10-semester/ 15-trimester bachelor’s degree program in Law through the regular mode from a recognized University having secured a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed (70% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC- NCL/Persons with Disability.)
b) Candidates having a 3-year/ 6-semester/ 9-trimester bachelor’s degree program in Law (LL.B.) through the regular mode from a recognized University having secured a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed (70% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC-NCL Persons with Disability); and
c) Candidates having a Master in Law degree (LL.M.) through regular mode from a recognized University having secured an aggregate of at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade (50% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC-NCL)/ Persons with Disability);
d) Candidates having passed the Solicitors Examination conducted by the Bombay Incorporated Law Society and having completed a bachelor’s in Law (LL.B./LL.B. (Hons.)) degree from a recognized University through regular mode or
e) Candidates having a Master of Business Laws (MBL) degree from the National Law School of India University with a minimum CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 4.00 and having completed a bachelor’s degree from a recognized University through regular mode.
Provided that candidates in their final year of study in the respective degrees in (a), (b), and
(c) shall be eligible to apply, subject to the candidate securing the minimum marks
or equivalent grade.
a) Candidates having a Master’s degree in any discipline through regular mode with a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade (50% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Persons with Disability) and a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University through regular mode; or
b) Candidates having passed the Company Secretaryship examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and been awarded Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS) and have completed a bachelor’s degree program in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized University through regular mode; or
c) Candidates having passed the Chartered Accountants examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and been awarded Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, and have completed a bachelor’s degree program in Law (LL.B.) degree from a recognized University through regular mode;
Provided that candidates in their final year of study in the respective degrees in (a), (b), and (c) shall be eligible to apply, subject to the candidate securing the minimum marks or equivalent grade prior to the date of commencement of the Ph.D.
Any person holding a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized national or international University is eligible to apply to the program. Applicants in the General Category should have graduated with an aggregate of not less than 45% of total marks. Applicants in the SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD Category should have graduated with an aggregate of not less than 40% of total marks. Students in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply.
Admission to various programs at NLSIU is through a separate entrance exam.

The campus of NLSIU covers a sprawling 23 acres of lush green area. The campus has an academic block, student hosts, faculty quarters, a library, a canteen, health centers, gym facilities, and discussion rooms.
Each student enrolled in the full-time academic program at NLSIU is a member of the Student Bar Association, which is governed by its constitution and operates under the general guidance and supervision of a faculty council.
The Cultural Committee organizes a number of intra-college events like the Art Mela, Playfest, MadAdz, Movie Spoofs, Western Music and Dance, and Eastern Music and Dance. The Committee also organizes inter-collegiate events like LeGala and ADMIT ONE -the only international-level theater festival.
Cultural events like the annual fest, “Admit One,” legal workshops and guest lectures provide
students an opportunity to display their talent and network with legal professionals.
Each outgoing batch elects a recruitment coordination committee among its students that networks with advocates, law firms, and companies interested in recruiting students. According to NIRF reports 2023, 65 UG and 28 PG students are placed and the median package offered is INR 16 LPA and INR 8.25 LPA respectively in NLSIU’s placement’s 2023.
NLSIU mandates an internship of 25 working days for all BA LLB (Hons) and LLB (Hons) students every year.
LLM and MPP students are also required to undertake internships.
The career services team advises and connects students to internships and opportunities that lead to their overall development.
NLSIU has a legal-age clinic, which is a student-run committee. It offers legal and paralegal services. The aim is to spread legal awareness and provide free assistance to the socially and economically backward sections of society.
