LLM

MPP (Master’s Programme in Public Policy)

Ph.D. (Law)

Ph.D. (Interdisciplinary )

Admission Process

Eligibility criteria

Eligibility criteria for undergraduate programs (BA LLB): 

Candidates from General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories should have passed 12th Grade or an equivalent examination with 45% marks (or 40% for the SC/ST category).

Eligibility criteria for postgraduate programs (LLM): 

Candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories should have an LLB or equivalent degree with a minimum of 50% marks (45% in the case of SC/ST categories). Candidates appearing for their final year LLB examination are also eligible to apply.

Eligibility criteria for Ph.D. (Law):

a) Candidates having a 5-year/ 10-semester/ 15-trimester bachelor’s degree program in Law through the regular mode from a recognized University having secured a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed (70% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC- NCL/Persons with Disability.)

b) Candidates having a 3-year/ 6-semester/ 9-trimester bachelor’s degree program in Law (LL.B.) through the regular mode from a recognized University having secured a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed (70% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC-NCL Persons with Disability); and

c) Candidates having a Master in Law degree (LL.M.) through regular mode from a recognized University having secured an aggregate of at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade (50% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC-NCL)/ Persons with Disability);

d) Candidates having passed the Solicitors Examination conducted by the Bombay Incorporated Law Society and having completed a bachelor’s in Law (LL.B./LL.B. (Hons.)) degree from a recognized University through regular mode or

e) Candidates having a Master of Business Laws (MBL) degree from the National Law School of India University with a minimum CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 4.00 and having completed a bachelor’s degree from a recognized University through regular mode.

Provided that candidates in their final year of study in the respective degrees in (a), (b), and 

(c) shall be eligible to apply, subject to the candidate securing the minimum marks

or equivalent grade.

Eligibility criteria for Ph.D. (Interdisciplinary):

a) Candidates having a Master’s degree in any discipline through regular mode with a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade (50% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Persons with Disability) and a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University through regular mode; or

b) Candidates having passed the Company Secretaryship examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and been awarded Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS) and have completed a bachelor’s degree program in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized University through regular mode; or

c) Candidates having passed the Chartered Accountants examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and been awarded Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, and have completed a bachelor’s degree program in Law (LL.B.) degree from a recognized University through regular mode;

Provided that candidates in their final year of study in the respective degrees in (a), (b), and (c) shall be eligible to apply, subject to the candidate securing the minimum marks or equivalent grade prior to the date of commencement of the Ph.D.

Eligibility criteria for Master’s Programme in Public Policy and LLB (Hons):

Any person holding a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized national or international University is eligible to apply to the program. Applicants in the General Category should have graduated with an aggregate of not less than 45% of total marks. Applicants in the SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD Category should have graduated with an aggregate of not less than 40% of total marks. Students in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply.

Entrance exams (CLAT and others)

  • For admission into their 5-year BA LLB (Hons) and LLM program, one has to clear CLAT.
  • For admission into their 3-year  LLB (Hons), one has to clear NLSAT-LLB.
  • For admission into their Master’s Programme in Public Policy, one has to clear NLSAT-MPP.
  • For admission into their  Ph.D. (Law) and  Ph.D. (Interdisciplinary) program, one has to clear NLSAT-PhD.

Selection criteria

Each outgoing batch elects a recruitment coordination committee among its students that networks with advocates, law firms, and companies interested in recruiting students.
