CLAT 2025

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a highly significant entrance exam for law students in India, which covers 24 National Law Universities (NLUs) and numerous affiliated institutions. Exam Pattern

Five major sections In CLAT

- English Language: 22-26 questions (approx. 20% of paper) on grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension.

- Current Affairs, General Knowledge: 28-32 questions (approx. 25%) questioning static GK in addition to awareness about current happenings.

- Legal Reasoning: 28-32 questions (approx. 25%) assessing application ability in terms of law concepts in given scenarios.

- Quantitative Techniques: 10-14 questions (approx. 10%) testing basic mathematical concepts.

The test is attempted offline in a span of two hours, 120 questions of the multiple-choice type, one mark for each question. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect response.

- Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar: Rank 8 with 69.56 score.

- Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow: Rank 20 with 55.92 score.

Participating Colleges

With CLAT, the candidates are eligible for admissions in 24 NLUs and more than 60 feeder colleges in India. Each college maintains a reservation policy and seat matrix as indicated within their individual admission brochures.

Cut-off Trends (Past 5 Years)

Cutoffs vary each year depending on the difficulty of the test, on the applications made, and on the vacancies at hand.

A general overview

- 2024: For top 3 NLUs, cut-off was to be 93-96 marks; for top 9 NLUs, 83-85 marks.

- 2023: Cut-off at NLSIU Bangalore was between ranks 1-102 for general category.

- 2022: 100 marks were to be required for admission in top NLUs such as NLSIU Bengaluru and NALSAR Hyderabad.

- 2021: Chances of admission in top NLUs were more for candidates with above 90 marks.

- 2020: Cut-offs differed, as greater NLUs required greater marks because of increased competition.

The above figures are estimates, and the cut-offs may differ every year. Students are compelled to stretch for greater marks in an attempt to stand a better chance of getting into the preferred institutions.
